Please tell me the good and bad, and suggestions on make and model etc. will be running it thru the vei monitors on the bridge..

    Thanks
    Tim,

we have the VEI with both low light and thermal. I love the low light the thermal is not what I hoped for. Make sure you get the pan/tilt as discussed above. The only time the thermal is any good is in fog when the low light is not all that great but better than nothing. Drop me a line when you are ready to buy.

Was out last week on a 60+' boat that had a Night Vision Technologies camera, think was a model 1010 or 1018. They ran two large monitors and running out in the dark had one full screen for it. Very impressive and now can't imagine running in the dark without it. They ran 28kts headed out and said used to only run high teens in the dark before had it.

I own a Flir Navigator and use it quite a bit. It makes docking late at night a piece of cake. I spend a lot of time in and around the caves out in the Channel Islands and it's great for watching the sea lions. Pan and tilt operation is very smooth. Image quality is great. I was told the infrared sensor is the same basic unit BMW puts into their cars. My only complaint is the crappy joystick controller. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties, I'm thinking about selling it. Shoot me a PM if anyone is interested.

    You don't need a FLIR...

    You got a NIMROD

We were playing with the one on the Canyon Runner one night at the WMO this summer and it was amazing what you could see. From reflections off the water of nearby buildings to the tiny thermal difference of the LED's in the cabin ceiling showing through it was all clear. It's not an on the water review by any means, but it looked like one damn nice tool for night running.
