So I just got my new ride (pics to follow). Everything looked good in the shop. There was some slight craking in the gelcoat at the front of the boat, 4mm lines, then I put it on a different trailer.
Chunks of gelcoat are falling off on the right side and the left is looking like it will do the same. The affected areas are the exact size and shape of the cradles of the old trailer. The material under the gelcoat seems hard (we poked it with a key) and there is no visible moisture.
One contractor recommended stripping the whole bottom, applying new glass on the worst areas and then gelcoating it. He said the whole bottom would need doing as it has stress cracks. By the way the hull is more than thirty years old.
Has anyone had experience with this?
