    Fishfinder trouble...Help!

    Hi Guys,
Newbie here!. Have a 13 ft 2003 Whaler with a Piranha II fishfinder on it that has started to act up. It turns off by itself. I am sure it is a power electrical problem of some sort. Any ideas where or what to look at? Battery cables? After it does this I reconnect transducer and power cables and turn it back on but this is a pain. I am debating just getting a newer model. I am pretty handy but could use some advice on this one.
    Thanks.

does the fishfinder just turn off by itself or when you do something that may draw extra current from the battery, (start the engine, key up the VHF radio, etc)?
I had a battery problem that would cause mine to shut off when I started the boat.... Typically they work or don't work so if its intermittent, it maybe something other than the fishfinder.

If it is cutting off when starting the engine like scooper said it's probally a bad battery cell or check the power cables for the unit, a little corrosion on the ground connection can make electronics do some crazy things.
