    Engine room soundproofing?

For an overly loud twin diesel.

What blanket material should I be looking at, and who's a good supplier?

The boat just has foam sheets now, looking to upgrade

    Thanks

Soundown is the most popular and I believe most effective...

Here's a new up and coming product....I have no feedback on it's actual use and effectiveness....

The painted coatings like Noxodul or Silent Running actually are quite effective. I have used them and they are measurably quieter, in some cases better than foam/insulation.

Also, make sure all hatches are effectively sealed.

If the main objection is exhaust noise, you will have to look into mufflers. Marine Exhaust has effective products although they are expensive.

Although I haven't run my new boat yet we have installed sound down materials in the engine room.

The neat thing about it is while talking to someone while standing in the engine room you get a real attenuation of the sound. It doesn't resonate like you would expect to hear in a small confined space. It's also very quite in the engine room if someone is working in some other location on the boat.

We used 2" sound down insulation blanket under the cockpit sole. Below that we used the quite tech perforated sheet. For the engine room side panels we used a non-perforated quite tech panel. We’re also using a sound absorbing material along the centerline walkway of the engine room.
