my dd12v71's have heaters and tstats. I have been told the tstats are not hooked up and that when I next flush my antifreeze, to install the probes. I'm sure they are disconnected because the tstats failed at some point since they were installed in 1983. My question is do I have to wait until I flush my system and where would I get new tstats? the ones on my boat look a crude antique with a spiral metal band starting about an inch and a half in diameter. any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Any suggestions on a new pair of block heaters Cat C-12's

I will be having new set Cat C-12's put in our boat probably in the next 6 weeks and wonder if they should be ordered from Cat directly or anyother suggestions that should be done to engines before the installation.
    Thank you

If you're repowering, I would have the factory install them.

CAT has factory block heaters and prelube system that can be installed on the engines. I would suggest both systems though your engines should not have any cold starting issues if the heaters happen to fail with the new EUI system. Are they going to be c12 ACERT's? Don't you have C15's in her right now?

Just found out about this the other day

We have the what I call the C-13's (800 hp) now but they are coming out real soon from what Cat just informed on Wednesday. Going to replace them with a set of new C-12 ACERT's. I will inquire about the above mentioned factory installs being they are new engines.
    Thank you

Make sure your CAT dealer installs the element in the right location expecially if your going to hook up to a bus/cabin heater.

Just got mine reinstalled by a CAT mechanic yesterday..its only been since mid january trying to figure out where to put it.

Thank yor the head-up and I will discuss this with Cat. I have a pair of block heaters I ordered for the C-13 at Canyon Club that never got put on the engines and possibly they will work on the new ones. Again thank you.

Caveman - they might work, just have the guys down there check them out. My engine is a c-12 compact and you couldn't get access to the location where the element usually goes. The other fitting was being used by my heater valves. It was solved by installing a T fitting in the cabin heater returns and connecting the line from the coolant tank. I was out today scouting some wrecks and everything appears to be working nicely. Im sure Wrigley will do the right job. Do you know if they (canyon club) travel's for service? How is their pricing as compared to Ransom?
