early 90s 61 Buddy Davis good or bad?
Hey everybody, were looking at the older 89 to early 90s 61 Buddy Davis to upgrade to. Were looking to do some tournament fishing and canyon fishing but as well as a summer house for the family. I have heard a lot of good and bad about these boats. For example the motors(most have detroits 12v92s) the cold molded hulls, there called flexible flyers stuff like that. Also a lot of bad news about the company going out of business. But than some good things about these boats. What do you guys think of these boats Pros and Cons ? Stay away from them or are they good boats? Thanks guys looking forward to the responses.!

if you do,
You have to look at the "Beast" in Cape May. Its a 61 that I cant stop looking at. I think you can bend the belansin boys over and buy it too. Its paint is new, its won the WMO, I believe it has new engines, and the captain says hes from Palm Beach which we all know isnt true..........but its a nice story.
Fritzy needs to see a dentist but he doesnt come with a history of biting anyway.
The boat is beautiful. Good Luck.

Davis
Is one of the prettiest boats out there in my opinion. There is a 47 or 48 that sits at an adjacent dock to ours inland, and that boat is absolutely gorgeous, teak transom and all. The owner is repowering her, as she was loud, slow, smoky, and a fuel hog. I know there was one hull around the size you are looking at that is notorious for being a dog. Overall, I've heard good things about them, just a few hulls that didn't really have that "Carolina Ride"..I'm sure someone on here will be able to provide you with better insight.

No way!
I absolutely hate the handling characteristics of a Buddy Davis 47. It is pretty good in a direct headsea, but sucks in the other 320 degrees on the compass. If you are seriously considering one of these fuel hogs, fish one first in 15-20 knot winds then fuel it up. Case will likely be closed.
I fished 2 days on a 61 Buddy Davis in near flat calm seas, but I know nothing about the ride in significant seas. It had 12-92s and was a fuel hog but that could be partly due to those engines. The boat trolled and fished well.

If I'm not mistaking, Buddy Davis went to fiberglass hulls aroujnd '86 or '87. They still do some cold mold under B&D.
So the boat your looking at is probably fiberglass.

What boat isnt a fuel pig at 61 ft? When you fish the MA500 even weber knows what a boat burns and all the vikings get to stay with him because they burn alot of fuel. That statement makes as much sense to me as "that boat will rock you to death" Well, hell ya......In 6 ft, any boat will rock.....lets see, 6 ft!
