If you ever have any problems feel free to give us a call or feel free to drop the boat off at any time for service.
Barnacle - thanks for the info. You have an excellent reputation. Not having a trailer would be a problem getting the boat to you.

I guess things just happen sometimes. I'm glad that new parts will be provided and not having things rebuilt. If something does go wrong, I think that is definitely an advantage over other manufacturers engines.

thanks again and I'll keep you posted, if interested.

Engine Update = NOT THE POWERHEAD

Limp home on one engine not knowing what happened and being extra cautious after checking things out and can't figure what just happened.

Mechanic takes a look at it yesterday and tells me it's either the powerhead or the gear case. He couldn't tell with the boat in the water because it's totally locked up and wouldn't start. WTF?!?!?!?!?!? He said it was the first time he's heard of this happening to an E-Tec.

Has anyone else had or heard of this happening to E-Tec engines?? Not the old Ficht's or any other Evinrude model. These are the new E-Tec's.

    thanks for any info.

Mechanic got a close look this morning. It was the gear case that has the problem, not the powerheard. Will be completely replaced with the warranty. I was glad to hear is wasn't the powerhead. Should be good to go in the spring.

    brew,

Glad to hear your issue will be resolved and covered by warranty.

We just repowered our 31' Ocean Master this year with twin 250 E-tecs. Have had some issues getting started.

First, using the new i-Command gauges, we had a lot of problems with the software. We had to receive 2 different firmware updates. We also had received a number of bad sensors for the oil and gas tanks. It took us a while to get everything working. Also had an issue configuring the network and gauges for 2 motors and 3 gas tanks, since that was not an option in the configuration.

When we got underway this fall, we had an issue immediately with the port engine overheating for no apparant reason, once you got up to planing speed. We suspected that maybe the water pump was bad. We had our dealer take the motor apart, but he could not find anything wrong with the motor, and insisted the water pump looked fine. Eventually we had him switch out the lower units, and we immediately transferred the problem to the starboard engine. We replaced the water pumps in both engines and have been running fine since.

Just wanted to share this in case anyone running e-tecs experiences a strange overheating problem... replace the water pump even if it "looks good."

I'm hoping we can put these issues behind us for next year and get some of the reliability and efficiency we were expecting.

When the Icommand came out it was a nightmare with software. It was problem after problem. I think they put that system out to early. Did you have the BRP Icomand or the Lowrance gauge. The Lowrance really gave the ETEC fits when it came to software. BRP came out with the fix for all the Icommand systems and are trouble free now.

On your water pump I bet there was a impeller housing problem. We had one on a new Johnson 150 about 3 years ago that drove me nuts. When it comes to fixing things I am anal about finding out what the problem was. Alot of people would just install a new pump kit and send the old one back. That kills me. I need to know what and why before it goes out the door.

Im glad to hear it was your gearcase over the powerhead.

Interesting to hear about the I-Command gauges. I'm considering adding them this winter. I have to compare the cost between the Digitial and the Classic gauges. I kind of like the look of the Classics. Which one's did you go with? And did you add them after the repower or at the same time?

Barnacle - yeah, I was glad some of the bad was not so bad. Would you have a recommendation between the Digital and Classic I-Command gauges? Is there any real benefit of one over the other?

If it was me I would go with the Classic. The only reason why is I like that style gauge. I do not like digital faces at all. No matter what you pick they have the bugs worked out of them. Just make sure the EMM has the latest software installed.
