When I dream about the boat I'll have someday, that 28'-31' size for downeast is really appealing. I love the northern bay, but I've only been on the 36, never been on a smaller one. I'd have to think that the ride is similar. What kind of speed do they get?

personally i'm all about downeast boats. but you have to be willing to sacrifice speed which has been mentioned. I think its rare to see a downeast boat that cruises over 25 and more are around 20. great boats though and like everyone said pretty economical and tough as nails. i had looked at that 31 duffy a couple times online, good looking boat!

My 28 Seaworthy with the 370hp Volvo will cruise all day at 20kts with no problem. But most of the time I am running between 17 to 18kts unless I am running late, then I'll kick it up to 20-21kts.
Running out of Rudee Inlet, VA and the first kill of the day.

Macky, I would love to chek out you're boat, but we're just not in a position to buy right now She's beautiful, and looks like she's rigged right.

What would you guys reccomend for pure, get you there and back ride in rough conditions in a 28 to 32 foot package? Don't care about anything else. Just how well the boat can handle rough water

    Mackey-
I'm not even in the market for a boat and I'm running numbers just thinking about that boat. What a nice ride.

    Fintan-
Seriously any of the downeast boats are going to be all that you need in rough weather. They were built for the type weather that we get around here.

Not trying to be rude but just for the record that is the JC 35'.

nice first post dude, keeping us honest! welcome aboard SFC

Shoe, i dunno about this boat, but the Northern Bay i think holds the speed record for the fastest Doeneast style (non-planing hull) boat - at 36 knots!

Had our 28 Seaworthy/BHM out yesterday and she did 25kts @ WOT (2850 RPMs) going into a 3 foot chop with full tanks and 3 persons on the Chesapeake Bay. Not 36kts, but pretty damn good.
