    mmm, Mrs Hays.
No, it doesn't matter what you drag, as far as LOOKS go. The Moldcraft Wide Range is possibly one of the ugliest lures ever invented but it will consistently outfish the finest shell head offering from Black Bart or Marlin Magic. That's why almost every guy I know who runs a multi-million $$$ boat will always have a Wide Range out amongst the Ruckus's and the Extreme Breakfasts. Even if they do not understand the attraction of the bait they recognise the numbers of fish it raises and therefore use one.

Looks are not the main attraction to a marlin hell-bent on eating something, something else is. In a word, CPUE.

A fish hell-bent on destroying something, for whatever reason, is a different animal and will happily attack something else.

But whether you're spoiling for a fight, or looking for a girl, you still need to find a bar, and the bar that makes the right noises will get your custom before one that is closed or one that has a bunch of flashing lights outside it.

I would agree with you in general but I have some very nice honey holes both Pelagic and Anatomical where lights do NOT flash! One of them brings back a lovely night in the Canary Islands....................................

Tryin' to be the man, my dog think's I am. marine diesel service owner

    I'll Take A,

Glass over wood boat with a single diesel. I can't give you a 100%, knock dead explanation. But I know what I saw with my last commercial boat, hooking for king's. She was a double planked mahogany lobster hull, glassed over with a single Cummin's, it flat raised fish. I have seen what twin Detroit's will do too, not bad. In my estimation outboard's can't keep up, of course I haven't done too bad with my galss boat with twin Honda's. Then again, maybe I just catch the stupid fish! Good thing they all taste the same. LAST YEAR I MOVED UP TO A 32 BLACKFIN WITH TWIN DIESELS FROM A 28 GRADY WITH O/B'S. WHEN I HAD THE GRADY I ONLY CAUGHT 3 MARLIN IN THE LAST 5 YRS. THIS YEAR A SAW A LEAST ONE MARLIN ON EVERY TRIP AND RELEASED SIX. I KEPT THE SPEAD THE SAME. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE I WAS ABLE TO ADD A FEW TEASERS. I DO BELEIVE THE SOUND OF THE DIESELS RAISE MORE BILLFISH.

There's a lot of considerations that come into play when trying to raise a marlin or fish in general. Ofcourse a larger boat will raise more fish, it's a bigger louder object in the water. Your boat is your largest teaser. I troll out of a larger center console. I can get marlin to come up 10 feet behind the boat to rip off teasers. This all has to do with a mix of things. The first thing that is important is to only troll with ONE motor. Another aspect that has greatly improved our fish raising ability is that we don't troll at a set speed, but rather dialing into the right hum produced by the engine. Thus is something that is trial and error, but when you find that hum it makes all the difference. Another huge deal was tuning into the right spread for this boat, this doesn't come overnight. By the way we run a simple spread of hoo's, hoo/islander combos, sp. Bars, and some
Moldcraft senior super chuggers of the transome as teasers. The placement was the most important.
I would say someone with a bigger diesel boat has more clue of what they are doing and the results show, it isn't only the engine package. That being said someone who knows what that are doing on a smaller outboard could also have great results.
