    Digital Antenna cell phone amplifier

Does anyone have any experience with this unit? They claim it will extend offshore cell phone range by 30-50 miles. I would like to hear some reports on how it really performs.

    DA4000

I had a DA4000 on my previous boat (Arima Sea Legend 22). The 8' Digital Antenna cellular antenna was installed on the roof about 7 feet above the water line. The most I got was 'bout 25nm in ideal condition - meaning the water was extremely flat w/no rocking. A lot depended on where I was fishing (I'm on Oahu).

I believe it operates on "line of sight", so a lot of variables are involved. Your best bet is to check out the marinas in your area to see how far out they're getting. Ken

Here in se nc, they are not the way to go. The boat I used to run had one, and it only gave me service around 15 miles offshore. Several good friends have the trucker antenneas hooked straight to there nextel phones, and have service 45+ miles offshore. It is also a much cheaper route. I believe the antennae and adapter are in the neighborhood of 50 bucks.
