700HP class engines
Just some facts on the engine speed and displacement of these engines.
Generally, engines in the 700HP class turn 2300 RPM except the QSM11 which at 715HP turns 2,500 RPM.
QSM11 at 715HP is 2500 RPM. Yanmar engine at 720HP is 2300 RPM.
QSM11 is 10.8L (660 cu. in.)and the Yanmar is 11.7L (714 cu. in.)
Also, Cat, Cummins and Yanmar all use similar unit injector technology.

My Observation,
Apples to Apples here. Which one has the longest running history, which one is offered for commercial use at the same HP rating (the engine you are pushing isn't even offered to the commercial fleet, well that is if you don't mind having NO warrantee), which engine has the proven time in hour's before needing rebuild or replacement. Which engine mentioned (that if it has a failure under warrantee) pay's for removal and re-installation. For my money, it ALL fall's on one. Of course I'm biased, that's no secret. Frank

12L Class engines
Frank,
Not sure if you are responding to my post but if so again just the facts...
I work for a Yanmar distributor and I read some inaccuracies in this thread so I decided to post. I am being neutral as to which brand is better but the facts should be correct so informed decisions can be made.
Yanmar sells the 720HP 12L engine recreationally and it is EPA certified as such. They did not certify it for commercial use so it cannot legally be sold for that, not even without a warranty. Emissions standards are different for commercial engines and the engine company must certify seperately for them. Scania sells a very similar engine (same block etc) only commercial only at 700HP. Scania engines have been sold commercially for many years.
I could be wrong but I do not believe the QSM11 is offered commercially at 715HP. To get an intermittent commercial rating I belive you need to go to 610HP or less.
Yanmar pays for removal and reinstallation for warrantable failures and it is my understanding that all brands do this.
Again, I never post about Yanmar as I enjoy fishing personally and I don't like to mix these things but I just want to provide some facts.

Reel Time,
I'm not slinging mud here, as I work on Yanmar's as much or more than any other brand(they know me very well). I am a Cummin's Dealer, I would say that most on here know that. Yanmar's product that I have called about are not warranteed in commercial application's (mid-range engine's) if that is incorrect, then the in-accuracy comes from the Yanmar Distributor I deal with daily. Again let me make this REALLY clear, I am not slamming Yanmar, I believe that their smaller engine's are just as good as they come. All engine company's have an area that they are strongest in. My opinion come's from (as I stated previously), look at the engine that has the vast bulk of proven hour's. No arguement, just my opinion.
I as you enjoy fishing a much as anyone I know, that's why I'm on here. I give my opinion's from the way I have seen thing's in the many year's I've been doing this. When I make an engine sale, I recommend the engine that I "believe" will last the longest. I remember the day's when another brand made engine's that I could just about guarantee 10,000 hour's on a re-build. They don't make em' like that anymore I think we'll both agree on that.
While I am a Cummin's Dealer(I'm also a dealer for other 's as-well), I don't work on just Cummin's. If it burn's fuel, more than likely I've got a good amount of experience with it. I try not to paint everything with too broad a brush. I just call em', like I see em'. Not much beating around the bush with me. By the way, I'm all ear's and alway's looking for the next/best mouse trap out there. That's what keep's it interesting for me. Frank

Frank - I work for the distributor you mention - Mack Boring 908-964-0700. I respect your thoughts and just want to provide some facts and insights where I can. I can provide more details on Yanmar and commercial ratings or anything Yanmar for that matter if you are interested. Feel free to reach out to me if I can help.
Both of us have good intentions and are not selling or bashing brands on this board.
