Just finished replacing the long block on my beast andwent to test fire... Cracked injectors and bled... Running just as rough as can be and belching smoke. Any ideas where to start looking to fine adjust?

I'd take a look at boatdiesel.com if I were you. Lots of good info on that board, especially for the detroits. I usualy get too much info. I'm not sure how similar the 6.5 is to the 6-71's, but I had a hell of a time getting good injectors when I replaced mine. They are all rebuilt for the 71's now. It took 10 to get 6 good ones. PITA. I don't know if that's your problem, but if you describe your problem with a bit of detail on BD, you'll get some good scoop. Good luck.

I second Bill's suggestion on the boatdiesel.com recommendation. I've gotten a ton of good info from knowledgeable folks on that site.
The smoking went away after about ten trys at timing. No smoke oil or anything. Put in boat now leaking oil (2-3 quarts in 10 hours...) . Do you think this will seal itself up with time or should I pull it agin and dig deep?
She's still drippin... And now the exciter wire is shorting out and killing engine...
There aren't many oil leaks that fix themselves, I'm sure it will take some action on your part to make the fix. It would be nice if you could get at the leak without pulling the engine, but for long term sanity it may be worth the effort. Better to get it fixed right and forget it rather than letting it piss you of each time you run the boat.
My 6-71's leak a bit, there are so many cover plates, adapters, accessories, etc that they are going to leak. It's an ongoing battle, but I have access all around the engine so I can try to correct them one at a time in place. It still drives me crazy because one starts as another is fixed.
Good luck.
See my post in one of your other threads on this, but basically what Tuna Taxi says..Originally Posted by Deep C
Oil drip has me still confused. Why at the mexhaust manifold and turbo intersection. Shouldn't be oil there. Comopression is solid. Now block company says there is a good chance I'm over full on il. It might be. The pan and system are supposed to be 7.5 quarts. We measured the stick to the pan and the full mark was right at the anti foaming baffle thing. So we figured that would be the place give or take. Well then we proceeded to put in almost 9 quarts(not knowing about 7.5 on the system. Then was informed that there was already 2.5 quarts in system from factory... so thats 11.5 quarts or 4 over...
