I think Mercury already has one that will run on diesel!! They made it for the Navy to run on different types of fuel!! If i remember right its a 3.0L Opti that was converted over which normally would put out 225 hp this one only puts out 135 hp!! I'd like too see what the PRICE TAG IS ON THIS ONE THOUGH!!

Evinrude has a 55hp tiller that is made specifically for the military and it will run on gas(primarily) diesel, JP-8, kerosene and a few other types of fuels for a limited amount of time in an emergency but we dont have any outboards that are made to run on straight up diesel. Im not sure if there are larger motors being used but I bet they are out there. We use the 55hp tillers for the 15ft zodiacs.
