    Ace,

On a serious note, they are good "old" engines. The technology is old 2 stroke design. They are heavy, loud, oily, smokey, etc..., but they raise fish and last for many hour's of operation. They have a LOW power to weight ratio's. If I already had a good one, I'd use it. If I was looking to put one in a new boat or re-power, I'd go with a more up-to-date engine. They will give you more power, burn less fuel, less smoke, quieter and more dependable. Not all brand's are created equal. You know my number, or when we fish we can talk. Frank

    DD 12-71

DD 12-71's were good solid motors. I would put them second only to the 6-71 in reliability.

They are 2 stroke motors, they will leak and burn oil. and use more fuel.

They were standard issue on 54 Berts for many years. Go to a Bertram forum and get first hand info from owners.
