Determining how much to charge for bottom job??

Hey all, How do painters determine what to charge for bottom painting? I have been painting bottoms on boats in my neighborhood and i was just wondering what all goes into their price and how they come up with it??
    Thanks

Well...I don't do bottom jobs, but from a simple business perspective.... add up all the cost of materials and multiply by 1.20 (20% mark-up) and then add up the cost of your labor. Add the two together and you have your total price. Divide that number by the length of the boat and you get your "per foot" price all-inclusive.

Generally in my area (Connecticut), soda blasting runs $45-$55 per foot, barrier coating (includes prep work) runs about $45 per foot and plain ole bottom painting runs about $25 per foot....and that does NOT include materials for barrier coating or bottom painting.

Now remember that these are marina prices, so if you're doing this "on the side", then your prices will most likely have to be lower to compete.

    Good luck!
