I was in Newport last weekend and I was looking at "Coronado", a 133 foot wooden sailing yacht built around 1880. It'll sail again but much of the wood is being replaced for the someteenth time. I want a boat with minimum maintenance that has a reasonable chance of never having a problem with rot. Is cold molded a possibility?
Seems to me I read an article a few years back about a cold molded sportfish yacht that was a couple years old and had serious structural rot problems. It was sold at salvage and everyone was suing everyone else. I bet it took all the fun out of fishing. There was a beautiful 65 Viking and a Garlington at the Vineyard for the monster shark tournament. I felt like a slacker on the 50 Post I was on. More Cabos than anything else, it seemed. Apparently, the sharks didn't like the Post. Bluefish ate every bait we put out except live bluefish. |
