Boat: dream boat, it's all in my head. I just build them for a living, almost.
Home Port: north carolina, inner banks. OR, the wild wild west, port nelson, rum cay, bahamas
Best Catch: I am more into tag and release.
Occupation: Caison Yachts, Chef, hull guy, dummy, fat boy, scapegoat, safety officer, ASSHOLE
Is it still fun?

I have been with Caison for about five years and I still love it, most of the time. Of course I have not built myself a boat yet, I don't think that will be happening anytime soon.
Did anybody tell you that you couldn't do it like they did my boss? Now we are on hull number ten or twelve.
Looks like you are doing it right by finishing every thing, We all hate reaching into a tight spot and pulling back a bloody finger or hand.

drose,
Very nice looking boats there. Has the slow boat market had an impact on your orders?

"DRose" I have my days when I'm being impatient. Yes and we've probably spent too much time building some pieces, but that's part of the learning curve.

I'm not the one doing the actual labor I'm just the guy funding the project and designing in the layouts and special things I want.

If I ever paid attention to people that told me I couldn't do things I wouldn't be in the position I'm in. I've been told that I couldn't do a lot of things. Life is too short to listen to that crap I don't think anyone except for my wife, thought my first business would take off, I now have 3 sucessful businesses and a 4th start up. Ya can't do that by listening to people tell you that you can't do it.

I keep joking with the guys that they can expect to be busy for years to come once this boat makes her debut and is sea trialed. You know I think they believe. It is a dream of mine to be a big part of a boat building company. We have suppliers that are on board with some actually supplying some materials at no cost. Apparently there are others that are believing in this beast in sheeps clothing now.

It was a rainy day here yesterday so I spent 4 hours down at the shed with the project manager discussing the final helm deck layout, custom windscreen configuration and level of finish for the remainder of the project. We both agreed that it was a lot of fun to be at these stages.

I was all over the boat yesterday looking at a lot of things and you are absolutely correct about being able to reach into any area that I want never having to worry about sharp pieces of fiberglass or any other thing biting me. You should see the gel coat work done in areas that the average boat owner wouldn't even notice.

You guys certainly look like you build a fine boat. Probaly have it down to a science by now. That engine room looks sweet. Are you guys going to IBEX in October? I'm going to head down.

Talking What slow boat market?

Just kidding, so far our market does not seem to be slowing down. As I said so far, we shall see how the elections go and if it has any bearing on it. We have more going right now then ever before. The boats have gotten a little smaller but owner's still want the best of everything which costs $$$$$$$!
Fortunate,
I don't listen to people when they tell me I can't do things either. My problem has always been bad decision making and a lot of promises from employers that never quite turned out like they were supposed too. I've done ok for an eighth grade drop out.
I always give 110% of myself to an employer and the truth is most off them have just ended up taking advantage of it. Donnie Caison is a very fair and smart guy and I really enjoy working for him. Although, I am his whipping boy and I accept that to spare my coworkers the beatings, HAHAHAAA!
Good luck with the build, looking forward to more of your pictures as she comes along.

Talk to ya'll soon.
Danny

We need more updates!

On thing that impresses me about Danny and others on these forums is how they are willing to go against conventional wisdom. They take a chance pursuing their dreams and accomplish something they can be proud of. That is the spirit that keeps this country strong!

I use this

and a drift sock on a 28' on sloppy evenings and it does a tolerable job of dampening pitch and roll.

If you haven't already given it thought you might want to think about how to design in a solution as part of the final fit out.

I saw this in Boat Builder. All I can say is Bad Ass for night time drifts.
