Dr. The launch date is still a moving target. The mechanical and electrical work is on going, they are painting the interior and cabinets and parts are being made in the shop but not much has been installed recently.

Sharkbite, all of the seating is mechanically and epoxied fastened to the deck and they've run filets along the edges. None of that will get glassed.

The sliding cabin door is just about completed. We're waiting for the latch hardware and just a little more refinement.

The door slides on hard plastic rollers and it’s hung from a stainless steel track and roller mounted against the cabin bulkhead.

    It operates smooth as silk.

The plastic rollers ride in a piece of Purple Heart wood recessed into a mahogany track.

We've thought of everything including a drain hole and slot to allow water out of the track if it gets in during wash down.

Here's a close up of the mahogany trim piece that was installed in front of the "garage" of the collapsible cabin hatch.

    Sweet isn't it?

As you can see the plastic is still up in the cabin. They are spraying coats of paint. As a matter of fact as I write this today, Sunday, two painters are in there this morning applying more paint.

This photo is the best example of the color and paint that I could get.

I saw a sample of the galley cabinet doors.

This style will be carried throughout the rest of the boat. There will be a 3/8" perimeter of Sapele Mahogany around all doors.

We're not using a pop up latch on the doors either. I've elected to use a stainless steel handle with a latch. Although I wanted to keep the boat traditional and true to a classic interior I wanted it to also be very functional.

The helm deck seating is almost complete. Here's the port side being fitted with the custom made drink box that's refrigerated.

Here's the starboard side seat that will have lockable rod storage built in.

Most of the rods will be stored in the hard top.

To give you some perspective here's two people up on the helm deck.

The seat back is left to be constructed and that's happening this week so that area can be painted.
There’s more storage built into the seat. Note the simplistic finger holes created in the seats used to pull the hatches up. All seat bottoms and sides are constructed with foam core materials in order to save weight.

Here's a picture of the master bunk corner moulding and another that had not been installed that I was able to photograph in some better light.

I can't wait to see varnish on that piece of wood. Of course the 2 radius corner pieces are match booked.

The sink is being installed in one of the bait prep areas.

The port dry risers and exhaust is getting installed.

The transom's last coat of varnish build up has been sanded smooth. The name gets applied next and then the final coats will be applied.

The prop shafts were removed and sent to get cut to size tapered and machined to accept the props.

This is a photo of the project manager Dave and my brother discussing boat design and how much thought can be put into an engine room louver along with it’s relationship to the lines of the boat.

How's the windscreen coming along? I'm very interested to see how it looks on that dodger, and it'll be a lot more practical than a strataglass/EZ2CY enclosure.

    wtownflyfisher,

The windscreen is due in on Wednesday. We made a mock up of it so we have an idea of what the lines will look like but like you I'm interested to see how it looks on that dodger.

You right it'll be a lot more practical than a strataglass/EZ2CY enclosure and that's exactly why I went with it.

That plastic stuff may be ok down south but to me glass seems to be much more practical.

I selected the green tinted glass, which should compliment the Fighting Lady Yelow topside paint.

    Mike,

Thanks for the updates. I can't wait to see how the completed companionway hatch looks when it is in place. That is one beautiful piece of work. I drove by today while I was over that way and checked out the stern! The guys were working with the door open, but I didn't stop because it was pouring rain. From the "tuna's view", she really looks strong.

Did you decide yet about a tower? I maybe missed it if you did. Also, how and where will you handle the helm controls while in the pit? Its nice to at least have speed and in/out of gear controls while clearing the spread, especially when you're fishing shorthanded.

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

Even just looking at her from the garage opening I'm sure you agree that the pictures are nice but they truely don't do her justice.

As Dave puts it she's "Strong as Bull".

I've considered controls in the pit, but I really haven't gone very far with the idea. The throttles are all electronic so they are just plug and play.

We're just now getting into the steering end of things.

We had received the wrong hydraulic system as a result of some miscommunication. So we're on track now.

What I may do is run a set of the hydraulic steering lines up to the tackle station on the starboard side. That cabinet above the sink is going to have a door cut in. One the inside of that door will be a monitor to display the fish finder which is especially useful while chunking at night. I’m sure that screen could be placed on a hinged door that could be opened to reveal controls.

I’m really excited about what’s expected to be completed this week. With any luck, I’ll be posting again over the weekend.

Next time stop by and say hello to the crew. They may even let you go up on the platform to get a good look.
