Does anyone have any experience with a Cummins 6CTA 8.3 M Electronic motors. 480 hp. Any ideas how many hours until they need a rebuild? Has anyone had any issues?
Thanks,

Crab mustard is good
I know of several boats that run them in my area and do not know of any problems. I think that engine can be turned up to 540 hp ?
Not sure life span before rebuild but I would think it would be in access of 10 k hours easily, considering it is in the right application.
I have a pair of the QSB 5.9 380 hps 4300 hours no problems other than a sensor.
Good luck

Cummins 6CTA
I have worked on an these workhorses they are fine engines The inline 6 cylinder provides great torque and the engine were manufacture with overhaul in mind. Sleeved block and drop in valve seats they are known to run in excess of 8k before overhaul

As long as you do the maintence required, oil changes, injectors, valve adjustments figure on 5 -6000 hours before you have to rebuild, if you run them under 2000 rpm they will last a long time.
Maintence is key.
