Anyone has any idea how this engine is @ 220hp? Its not an electronic engine....how does mechanical engines fair in this modern world?

Don't burn much fuel and last forever. When you think they're dead, they run another 4 year's. Of course you have to do your part too. Frank
Hi Frank,
That question was meant for you!! Do they smoke? what would be a better option-QSB 5.9 @ 230hp or the Diamond 6B @ 220hp?

You're talking "apple's and orange's" here. They are two different engine's. The QSB will not smoke (should not if they are in good shape), the mechanical engine's will. But what may be acceptable for me fishing my not be for you. You're also talking a huge difference in money between the two. I like the old mechanical's myself, ran them for year's on my own commercial boat's, didn't miss a day because of them. It's hard to argue with a proven engine. Frank
I like the mechanical option engines are indepedent of electrical power. A few throttle cables attached to the fuel solenoids and if you loss all electrical power you are still in operation. I don't believe this is true of the electronic engines.
granted you can't buy a new engine and the are all recons (Mexican made Cummins for US market)
Got dreadful news from Cummins NZ that all mechanical pleasure engines will cease production/sales from December this year!
Hi Mike,
Unfortunately that did no happen-the hull of the catamaran is a full displacement one & the choice was made to go with twin John Deere's,4 cylinder engines rated 135hp @ 2600rpm.Still will do 18 knots @ 1800 rpm.Fuel consumption will be around 19 litres/hr (5 gallons/hr).Very efficient hull forms are being drawn for this design.
