Cannot go wrong with the 450C, I am guessing recons as the new ones are electronic and more Coin. The biggest thing is to immediately take the after coolers off and grease them very well with Tef gel and new O rings. That way you are guaranteed they come apart when they need servicing. My other advice is to buy The extended warranty, very cheap insurance. Other than that shop the price around , last time I checked thay were around 20K each.

Any insight as to whether a reman Cummins 450C good replacement for a 671 @ 485hp?
If I was able to have my "dream boat" built, it would have 450 C's no doubt. They are a very proven engine, in both the recreational, but more tellingly in the commercial relm's. They are very user friendly, being easy to maintain. The 450 HP that is used in the name is the "metric" HP rating, they are 430 HP by US standard's. I have had very good luck with the "Re-con" product. I am a Cummin's dealer and sell them as a normal course of the day. Most of my sales go to the Commercial boat's in my area. These guy's put alot of time on their engine's. The price and warrantee that comes with them sell the engine's. So far so good, I wouldn't hesitate to go Re-Con. Frank
Wish you the best with whatever you go with John.
Ive got them in a 41 ray davis- its an old boat and length is measured from the waterline. She would actually be a 46 if she were measured by todays standards. I know your boat and my boat is VERY similar to the trophy- IF its the same one that used to be at PC.
I am pushing the 450's with 2:1 gears 24x32'' 4 blades. Turning 2260, I get mid 22 knot to low 23 knot depending on wind, tide, weight onboard etc. The cup on the props I have now is a bit too aggressive and I need to have some cup pulled out so that I can get my top end. Right now she won't get all the revs and tops out at 25 knots at 2470 rpms. I think by pulling the cup back, I could keep my cruise speed and get the top end up to around 27 knots and 2600 rpm.
I think I would get another knot out of her if I had tabs on her.
Not bad for cruising at 22 and burning 23 an hour. I can do canyon trips out of VB which are typically around 160 nm round trip days with the genset running for about 175 gallons.
I just bought the boat a couple months ago and this is the second boat I have had with c series cummins. Had cats, volvos, and detroits before and there aint another motor I would rather have than the cummins motors. They are light, simple, efficient, workhorses. In the spring, I am gonna do my prop adjustment and put the tabs on. Get in touch with me and I will let you know how it turns out.
