Hide- My Wifes Logged On
That has to suck. The boat doesn't look very old.

Rode hard and put away wet
She is a 1998
INTREPID 289. The boat was down at the factory last year for a new fuel tank (On INTREPIDS dime!) last year. It was apparent right away that the deck was not sealed properly when She came back although They had completely detailed the boat and even fixed a couple of small items while She was there. They offered to pay to fix it but We decided to fish Her until the end of the season
, and the rest You know! We love the boat and I have never had a better ride in a CC......and She catches! Thanks Jimmy, You ARE the Man!

the broken deck hatch has been recored, and the skin has been fully repaired...personally,i like marine grade plywood for deck coring.as you can see in the pictures, the core is completley seperated from any and all possible water intrusion.and, the core has been laminated with epoxy,a much better product than the polyester based resin that was used to laminate the divinycell...
all this looks real easy, there's a pretty good amount of time in the derigging of the boat, the removal of the deck hatch, the repair of the deck hatch, and the recoring of the deck hatch-so far...there's more work to be done to this piece, the underside will need to be glassed,to water proof the core, the outerskin, the portion you actually walk on needs to be refinished...there's much more to this job yet...
take a look at the pictures, you can see where the core ends and the outerskin ends, there's a gap between the 2,all the way around, right ?? idea here is,the hold down screws do not go through the core, the screws go through epoxy only...att he rigging holes and the deck plate holes, the core has been sealed with epoxy-this will eliminate any and all water intrusion into the core...slick huh ???
hey ted, quest,i never got those pictures ???

So much for all the "no wood" hype. Great tip on the hold down screws.
You should start building custom boats. But then again, you'd put yourself out of business. They would last forever.

little update...
let's give you guys an update on this rig...
deck hatch has been rebuilt,it's now primed and ready for refinishing-tomorrow's job...
the deck failed at the "ledge" where the lift out section rests, looks like it failed due to the fact it was cut-to replace the fuel tank,it wasn't repaired correctly...check the first picture, you can see the cut,and if you look close, there's an area of stress lines right on the seam where it was cut-this area is about to fail...the screws holding the deck in place were worn, these were a loose fit, which is a big problem, the screws vibrate and the screws turn into sawsand cut the fiberglass-reason the holes are so big-look at the pictures...the holes for the t-top aft legs are worn out too-gonna repair these too...
the pieces of wood are a replacement for the ledge that has broken away-these will be laminated to the deck and the lift out section will rest on those...these are 3/4" marine grade plywood, glassed on the back side and the end grain.epoxy resin is used for this repair, due to the fact epoxy is a much better, water proof product.putting matting over wood, using polyester based resin isn't the best choice,it's a surface bond only and it will fail, using epoxy results in a much better, stronger waterproof bond.
there's a few more problems with this rig too...check the fitting for the withdrawl of fuel,no antisiphon valves,or shut off valves...hose clamps look real nice too,huh ??? check how the fuel fill and vent hose runs through the stringer, the hoses are free to flap around, resulting in damage from chafing-not good huh ?? check the water hoses too...some of these are washdown feed, these are fed from a highspeed pick up,meaning water is forced up the fitting-the reason water runs from the washdown, while you're running and the pump's off...using this cheap red tracer water hose isn't a real good idea,it can and will fail-USE CERTIFIED ENGINE INTAKE HOSE ONLY...
we're getting there on this rig...
