Jimmy's boat was not purchased new, and Jimmy's boat was not purchased thru me or any dealer here in the NE.
Warranty work has a process, you contact your dealer and they seek the necessary approvals needed from the factory. Fiberglass work requires photos to be sent to the factory along with a detailed estimate of repairs. Jimmy also left out that I drove 2 hrs round trip out of my way to deliver the gelcoat to his boat, because there was a shipping error and needed asap. as for the lights, again I offered, and it was said that he was going to replace them with LEDS anyway

so in other words?
So the warranty is non transferable so to speak?and because he did not purchase thru you and not in the northeast that it was basically A moot point?seems A little fishy to me.Did the north east distributers have A problem with where or who he bought it from?It is still A contender and in my opinion they should stand behind there products.I can relate to this because A few years ago I had A similer problem but fortunately the company took care of it.Im surprised thats all.

Me I do not care, I will help anyone. It has nothing to do where it was purchased. I offered to take care of it for Jimmy all I needed was a picture of the affected area to start, his hull # and an estimate in the near future. Sometimes I can get the ball rolling with just a picture, but I need the pictures in order to get the ball rolling. The pictures are step one of the process. The reason that I say the boat was not purchased thru me is because I have no way of knowing what date the boat was put in to service, so warranty dates can be expired. Is the guy 1st or 2nd owner. Now did a dealer install the flourescent lights or did the factory. A lot of times dealer does things themselves or even the customers. If this is the case and the lights were not installed by Contender there is no warranty on them thru contender. Is the fiberglass work self inflicted or in fact a warranty repair. There are many reasons for the chain as you can see. For the part of being charged for the gel coat. Pictures and an estimate were not supplied or submitted to the factory and until that happens and its approved the dealer/consumer will be charged for parts. I personally have most of the common breakables in my possesion such as livewell pumps wash down pumps etc. A few months ago I dropped off a spare livewell pump at Off the Hook, in case one of the boats pumps fail and I am not around or its on a weekend and they need it. Its there for them.

just a piece of my mind here...
I owned a pld inboard contender for years back when I was young the thing was a tank! It rode great we fished it a bunch and it sold for a great price when it was time. I now fish with a cpl guys that have them and the boats are still very well built and these guys down here are taken care of very well by the company if there are any problems and they run the hell outta the boats! (I think they should get a pilots lic. along with a fishing lic. !) I don't care too much for busting up a rig that I paid my $ for but thats just me.. BUT do not jump down a boat builder's throat when they don't even see pics or the actual boat! especially online where you can start more grief than anyone needs. and since when do LED lights cost $800 ??? geeeesh I will send you a neat strip light with 3 colors for each side at a lot lesss than that... ya know the man just asked a question and now just to prove that you are smarter than the average bear you trash them ... put yourself in thier shoes also and ask yourself "if I sold someone a nice car and they sold it to someone else who ran it down a gravel road ..should I fix the chips???" do the right thing first take a pic e-mail the co. and call them the bashing did not and should not have to start. gelcoat is something you should learn yourself and is easy by the way. You never know when your gonna dock by braile!

Nauti,
Have you contacted Power Marine your local dealer? That is your best and 1st place to start. Feel free to send me pictures and your hull # and I will forward them on down to the factory so they have them. You still need to go thru the channels at power marine Factory is in mainly in Homestead FL and a few molds are in Baxley, GA

Mary did bring me some gel coat ( thanks )which I paid for, and I talked to the warrenty manager at the factory, he told me that the factory does not cover gel coat issues, now maybe a dealer would help but since mine was used ( 30 hrs and 4 months old when i got it ) and why a local dealer will not service and doesnt have to service used boats is beyond me!! Now on to my under gunnell lights, I was told by Mr. Chuck Aronald himself @ my slip that the light straps are a problem and if I figured something out better to let him know WTF!!! so thats why I put LED's in....... now remember I love the 33T, she is awesome but I dont like the fact that if you didnt get it here we cant help.....I think thats crap....dont see that is the car world..... all boat have there problems, and mine has some minor one but they are boats and they will break.... I think the factory should force all dealers to service all sold products no matter where you bought it!!! |

guess it would be cheaper if I only had a 25' boat ![]() and gel coat is not something you should learn when you pay $200 K +++ FOR A CC.......maybe if you want to restore something but thats not for me, rather buy a new one every couple years.... I think I am ready for a 08'.... ![]() Last edited by JUST RELEASED 34; 07-16-2008 at 07:51 PM. |

then it brings it down to paperwork ...
there should be a warrantee paper stating engines, hull, or any batteries, electronics , etc at the purchase. If not all warrantees are null and void. Most boat companys' that I have seen have had 1 year on all pumps, lights, cushions or canvas products and then hull warrantee (if any) and the engine warrantee's (if any). I have seen Jupiter, Intrepid, and contender take care of people for years Hatteras Bertram Merritt boats all have paperwork also and are stand up in my book and they have fixed stuff that the fault of the owner but unless you contact them and ask them or the person you bought it from you have nothing but your boat and a big question. Chips around hatches and corners are best handled by a detailer from a yard and they are usually not that expensive also.

"Most dealers will not service boats that they did not sell, a good portion of boat lines/dealers are like that."
Didn't know that. I always thought that a factory authorized dealer was essentially required to honor warranties and do service on any boat of that manufacturer. Now, I recognize that if you have a relationship with the dealer through a purchase you may go to the front of the line for service. I'm really thinking of buying a new Contender 21 or 23, but I guess this means I better buy it locally (plan to) and not move during the warranty period (don't know)--something else to raise with the Contender rep, and something else to think about. |
