    console hardware question

My console has a clear plexi door, which opens outward and upwards. It has two hinges on the top, and is held open by a really stiff stainless steel spring. The spring is bent when the door is closed, and the force of the coiled spring trying to straighten itself is what holds the door open. The spring looks like one of those ones on old wooden screen doors, that stretch when the door is opened, and contract to close it. But this one works by bending. Does that make sense?

Anyhow, mine is broken. I have been looking online at various marine cabinet hardware, but can't find anything like it. I am not sure what to even call it.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I had the same set up on my Aquasport.

    Let me take a look.

How long is the spring? 4-5 inches?

Thanks y'all, now I know what its called anyhow. that West Marine spring looks like the same idea. I have a photo of this one, which I am hoping to replace:

I have the lower piece with me here at the house, and it's two inches long. So the total spring is something like 12-14 inches.

I will measure the whole thing next time I am down at the boat, but I am guessing it's 7/16" diameter by a foot long.

thanks, it looks like Marlinsix found it at Jamestown Distributors. Its called a Seafarer Hatch Spring.

Now I just need to find enough other stuff there to justify paying a hundred bucks to ship a seventeen dollar spring....

Very true. So far the wish list includes several little bits of hardware to replace normal wear-and-tear stuff. And a Yamaha fuel/water seperator system, and a Yamaha fuel management system. And one of those stainless steel skeg protector sleeve things, and we have to replace a lot of the little stuff we owned but lost in the hurricane, like a new gaff, an onboard tool kit, and I am sure I can come up with some other goodies.

It would be great if I could find all the pieces at one supplier, and make one shipment...alas that never seems to happen.

I did manage to find a taco outrigger rigging kit here locally...and I bet you guys up north don't pay $ 127 for them either...

Do any of you guys know who makes this pedestal thing?:

I found it on a site some time ago, and kept the photo to remind me to look into it, and then lost the name of the manufacturer.
