    Cell phone antenna

My son wants a cell phone antenna on the boat. I said ok but how is it wired, what is it wired to, where does it get its power? As you can see I don't know a thing about it. I think I have some real learning to do. Anyone have one installed?

I googled it and found out that there is a lot to learn. It does not look to difficult. Just getting the right equipment to do the job. Hope someone has done it and can tell me what system they installed and how they like it.

    Make sure ....

...............it works on the same frequency as your and his cell phone. Call you cell provider and ask what frequency and match that up....

Kahi, I am find out that there is a lot more to it than just installing a antenna. I will find out my sons frequency and make sure the antenna will work with it. Thanks

Here's the system I have and it works pretty good...it's actually an amplifier not just an antenna.....I'll get a cell signal up to 20 miles offshore....

the best phone was the old bag phone in analog. I had mine hooked up to an 16 foot antenna and could talk to the beach from the Baltimore canyon, unfotunately they went the way of the buffalo.

I think I paid about $400 for everything including the antenna...but that was in 2005...I'm sure it probably cheaper now.

All you need is a cell antenna- I have a Shakespeare 8' cell antenna, and a cable to adapt your cell to the antenna. It is no problem since if you have your cell phone model # that is usually under the battery, you can get the adapter cable. In truth, it may not be really a good idea since without the antenna, I get about 8 mile offshore range, and with it I get about 10-12 depending on how much traffic there is on the network. It does cut down dead spots in Delaware BAy.

One nice thing about the Digital DA4000 is that it's wireless so you're not restricted in movement by being attached to a cable and it also works with any cell phone and more than one cell phone can utilize the amplifier at any point in time.
