wich is best catamaran or monohull

I am probably not very qualified to answer this question but I do have an opinion. I have a beamy 25ft DownEaster. I went out with a friend a couple of weeks ago on his brand new $150,000.00 cat. We had just a chop, not rough. I wouldn't trade 4 of his for my one. Not knocking his boat, he's trying to keep momma and the kids happy. It had alot of nice "stuff" that mine doesn't. All kinds of great storage, a pretty big head (I got a 5 gallon bucket), fold up tables ,etc... Not much room to fish and I wasn't crazy about the ride, ecspecially head too. My boat on the other hand is heavily built, not fancy and has room for fishing. I didn't see where the cat was any more stable than mine, side too bottom fishing. Guess it just comes down to what you're going to do with it. Sea trial both. Frank,SeaPower
Very different types of rides, you need to spend ample time on both to make a good decision. I for one am not a big fan of cat's, I always had a very uneasy feeling when on one but those that have them...love them!!
thanks, with fuel today wich is the best option to go offshore for marlin
I think you maybe still missing the point about CATs. It not which is better going offshore for marlin, it whether you like the ride/feel of a CAT running in the ocean. Because if you do not you're going to hate running 4 hours to catch a marlin in one. Find someone that has a CAT and go offshore for the day and see if you like that feel.
so, wich one has the best ride in heavy seas
Again I'm no expert. I was not inpressed when I went out in very moderate conditions, no way near rough sea's, just above calm. I didn't like it then and am pretty sure I would have liked it less if it were rough. It was a very wet, "queer" feeling ride. Again I don't know much, I've only been up and down the coast full time for 32 years. Like what I and other's have said YOU need to go and spend some time on both when there are rough sea's around. You're the one who's gonna pay for it. I know folk's that have em and love them. Let it also be said that I have been on Mono Hull's that I wouldn't be worth the match to set them on fire. In both cases it's construction. Go give them both a good test. Nothing worse than buying a boat only to find out you don't like it.Frank, SeaPower
I've not run into a "Perfect" boat yet. They all have give and take. I personally want a boat that does not fight the ocean. If it'll roll with the punches and you use common sense, it it'll get you home. I've worked through some pretty nasty stuff, all on mono hull's, that were" built" to go to sea.Frank,SeaPower
My 2 cents worth. The cat to me was a good riding boat in rough water it slam or pound at all, it laid you back in the water. It seemed to have some creaks in it and some funny feelings from 2 hulls riding in the water. Mono hulls like Seapower said I have been on some bad ones also. It seems to me the big difference is the amount of deadrise. Most boats with a 24 degree deadrise ride great but, in rough stuff going to fast can still rattle your teeth. If you like to bottom bounce the 24 degree is going to roll alot. The Worldcat seems to be one of the best cat hulls along with Freeman boatworks cat. The mono hull there are alot out there but Contender is probably one of the top. Like I said this is just my opinion.
Go ride a cat and see for yourself....I personally run a 27 and a 33 both worldcats and nothing in that size range monohull even compares
