I've had 3208NA 210 HP, 3208T 300 HP, 3208TA 375 HP, all were good engines and tolerated overheats and overloads pretty well, hence the good service history if reasonably well cared for. The 3208TA 425, 435, or 450 HP version do NOT tolerate overheats or overloaded conditions!! Sea water pumps and belts must be kept top notch as well as the internal cooling system and expansion tank must be cleaned and serviced regularly. All 3208s respond well to having the valves adjusted routinely. Make certain rated RPM of 2800+ is attainable under all possible loading conditions....true of all marine diesels but especially the high output 3208s. Care for them and keep up with the required prev maint, cruise at 2400 RPM or less and they'll give you good service. I'd own any 3208 Cat in whatever HP version. Good luck.
