Hello Mako 36,
You have owned some of the best! Sunny is a great builder and his 37' boats are among my all-time favorites. Jamie and Houston Lewis are super guys and great boatbuilders. They have a knack that few today can match. I believe they could build a boat in the dark and it would turn out just fine. And Sportsman, whether during Omie Tillett's days or Tom Daughtry's, are wonderful Carolina boats!
Even though are all very different, I would love to hear a quick evaluation of each. I am sure others would as well. Would be a great post.
Thanks for your comments on Carolina Flare. It was definitely a labor of love. Hope you enjoy!
Best wishes,
Neal
Can't stop thumbing thru my new copy. Very interesting and well done.
I know more then a few of the people in the book and spend a lot of time in hatteras village every year and its still fun to read the book. I also was very involved in carolina style boat building years ago. Great book neal. I was hanging out because of bad weather off shore. We were staying on the boat at the hatteras marlin club and the great big friendly Homer. After much boredom I would walk down the docks and ended up there when Mr foster was having the new cummins sea trialed in his albatros. He was confiding in me on the dock because his son was doing the trials {in the sound} on the boat with the mechanic. I think I still remember him saying Speed speed speed thats all these young people want. Talking about his son. I was introduced to him by my Capt Ronnie Jones and Mr Foster said I could not call him capt foster because Ron was my capt. So I always called him Mr Foster. What a guy. He told me so many stories the one about his boat being taken from him by the army during WW2 and used to pull comunications cables across the sound so the german subs did not hear radio calls alerting them they were being watched from shore. Then him fighting to get it back after the war ended will always be on my mind. He was not saying very nice things about the Governm, ent.
