Carolina Boats - Describe the ride!

There was an interesting comment on another thread about the ride (or lack of) on a particular custom carolina boat by a well-known builder. Lets hear about your experiences on different Carolina Boats (Spencer, Bayliss, Blackwell, Howell, Davis etc......) in the 50' - 60' range and describe the ride, speed, economy, wet/dry etc......

Hopefully this doesn't devolve into a pissing match about who's better, but rather the attributes (or problems) with the particular boats!

Ride depends on depth of entry...deeper entried hull designs like Richie Howell and Sonny Briggs were the best rides I been on.

The worst ride was a Jarrett Bay. As one would expect with the flatter bottoms of the jarrett bays.

Its really quite simple...you can look at the side profile of a boat out of the water and and more often than not can tell how good the ride is by the distance from the very bottom of the boat to the chine as this usually determines the deepness of the Vee.

I have also run some sonny briggs that got a mind of their own in large following seas. Its better to be pissed off, then pissed on

Otoro...How do you like the 38? Is it solid glass? What do you have for power...I always like that boat.

I really like it. For our type of fishing and needs it suits me perfectly.... it's cold-molded with 671Ti's and the open bulkhead (day-boat) design.

It's built like a tank and has been in some pretty nasty stuff and handles it really well. It can be pretty wet though and is not exactly a speed-demon. Marlin seem to really like her though... and thats the most important thing

Owned a 47' Buddy Davis- best riding boat ever been on- 34' CC is pretty good as well if looking at a smaller 'Carolina' boat- both are great in head sea and the 47' with updated CATS ran well and was economical. 34' CC with twin 275 Verado's cruises 32K and burns about 25 gals/hr-
