    Capt Troy, Adtech, which one?

I have seen ya post a couple times on this part of the forum about using adtech after fairing but before painting the awlgrip.

Which Adtech product are u and others using? I am in the process of fairing out a leaning post that I built for my CC and would definitely like to try the Adtech.

    just a quick note,
i have been using adtech products for over 10 years, that stuff works great. i use the pro-seal and mix cabo-sil and 3m
micro balloons to a mayonaise consistency , then squeegee it to a smooth surface, never had any problems . u will have to prime it with 545 primer to seal the porosity but its the best way to fair in

    hope the info helps

    Capt.D,
I use the pro-seal. I use it after I lay the glass and try to apply it before the resin kicks off to save a sanding step. It fills the weave in the glass and seals it really well. Basically it keeps you from sanding off so much of the glass itself by filling in the weave and leveling it off. You can roll, brush or use a squeegee to apply it.
On the deck I just finished, I sanded the ad-tech and applied a coat of high build primer sanded it and then applied the final top coat. A good trick is to spray a light guide coat over the primer and when you sand only remove the guide coat and you will get a better finish.

    Good luck,
    Troy

The micro balloons are very pourous, the adtech fills the weave better and completley seals the pours in the resin resulting in a better base for a finish in my opinion. I use that for filling the weave instead of the microballoons right after glassing.

since I have already filled the weave, would you recommend that I still use the adtech before the primer?

Yes, I would, because it will seal the pours of the micro balloons that you have sanded off. They are basically hollow glass bubbles that are easy to sand and good for fairing because of that but they become porous after you sand them.

    Pro Seal Question

Troy, do you ever thicken the pro seal?

I used proseal on the skiff I built and it works great on the flat, levels right off, but on vertical surfaces it runs off I had to do two applications in places.

Any tips on vertical surfaces with pro seal?

    Jay,
I haven't had any trouble with it running or sagging. If you use the squeegee on the vertical surface you are removing most of the excess. You can add some bubbles to it if you need to thicken it but it doesn't take much. Don't use cabosil cause it will be as hard as a rock when you go to sand it.

Have you started on the old Bite me yet ????

    Good luck,
    Troy
