    building new boat

Finally off the floor. Keel/stem done, strongback done , starting to set frames. Put in two and bent a couple of staffs to see how the chine/sheer are gonna go and so far its good. Pick up my 16' fir 1X2's tomorrow and will see how they take the shape.

    friday afternoon progress

My step-son came by to give me a hand which was much appreciated. Its good to have another eye. Working one frame at a time. so far like the sheer and chine. Will cut deadrise tomorrow and move forward with more frames. Still haven't done transom.....toying with idea of a little bit of tumblehome just have to staff that out to see if i like it in this small a boat. . . . .time to hit the rum...

    shaping frames

Finished all the frames and transom. Lot of staffing, looking, moving the staff, spent a long time till i found something that seemed to lay well. Just a little worried about the steep deadrise forward but that'll be good when i gotta go out in the river or get in a little ruff water.
Anybody got a suggestion for how much to angle the transom? I did 3 3/4" on a 20" high transom but looking it seems too much. Its not permanent so it can be changed easy if you let me know. Thanks for all the advice.

    Tom,

A little tumblehome will give you stability if your standing on the gunnel, but will

cut back on space inside. Looking good! The 36 Mako Express is still for sale.

    Hey Tabasco,
if i recall , the standard by the outboard mfg. was 12 1/2 degrees.but that may have changed as outboards have REALLY changed over the years. checkout "woodenboat forum" or "thehulltruth" websites, or Glen L Witt or Ken Hankinson who built and designed alot of small boats back in the day. depending on motor size you could set the transom at 15 degrees and make adjustments at the mounting bracket? Keep up the good work and pictures coming. love to see the progress!

    Thats so cool.

I wish I could do that. Drive a bull dozer through a house, I can fix it but I dig the knowledge it takes to build a boat. Next thing you know, your building a 40, then a 50, then a 60 footer.

I read it again.....Have you done this before? You talk like you have.
