Builder will revive 1920s Herreshoff design

Dan Shea, in collaboration with Herreshoff Designs, is building a long-forgotten boat that Capt. Nathanael Greene Herreshoff designed in the 1920s.
Based on his 12-1/2, initially called the Buzzard's Bay Boys Boat, Herreshoff was inspired to carve the model of a finely lined hull form to produce an improved 12-1/2 in 1928.
In his notebook he described it as "a pleasure sailing keel boat, to replace the Buzzard's Bay Boys Boat." But it was not built in his lifetime and sat unnoticed for nearly 80 years.
Shea, of Bristol Boat Co. in Bristol, R.I., is building this boat with craftsmanship from Herreshoff's notes.
The boats will be known as the H-20 Class. Hull No. 1 is nearly complete.
"We are pleased to be working with such an exceptional boatbuilder to make my grandfather's design come to life," said Halsey Herreshoff, principal in Herreshoff Designs, in a statement.

Crab mustard is good
Although I'm not a sail boater, I do enjoy seeing sail boats out on the water in Newport.
It's nice to see something like this come to fruition after all of those years.
Herreshoff designs are a work of art.
Cruising around Newport Harbor in the summertime you can see some classic sail boats.
This summer they are trying to put together a "J" boat race with some of the most prestigious old racing yachts. I'm looking forward to seeing it and photographing them.
