Ok I am sure this is going to make me sound like an idiot for believeing it but here I go. I live near the outer banks of NC and fish out of oregon inlet and hatteras inlet. I hear rumors about some of the charter guys having fish patterns painted on the bottom of their boat after the bottomkote is put on. I guess it is kind of like an urban legend in the area. Does anyone know anything about this or is it just that urban legend I mentioned earlier. Also, do you think it would even work if it was true. I would think that it wouldn't being the boat is already casting a shadow and any outlines on the bottom of the boat would be hidden because of the shadow and the background.
I know it helps get the kids involved and they enjoy it, I have a fish stencil and after the bootom is ready (black) they go under and use the stencil to paint bright green fish. I have a good average going on my fishing trips so I will say it works(or I will say it doesn't hurt)
I dont know if it is urban legend like you say , or just a coincidence. But the Captain of the Live wire (2005 35 Carolina classic) has at least 50 18" bright pink squids painted on the hull of his boat, and he just caught the Mass state record wahoo last week.
Another coincidence his old boat the original Live wire (32 Blackfin) had the same squid painted all over the bottom , has the Mass state record Blue Marlin , 700 plus pounder, and many 200 plus pound Bigeyes
i guess it cant hurt, if you got the time to paint them
Ask Deep C about his, if you ask nicely you might even get a picture and how to out of him. Yeah it works, and I have seen it on more than a dozen boats so its not an urban legend.
DEFINATELY going on the bottom of my new boat now. Anyone got any pictures or can tell me what kind of paint to use to make the patterns where they will stay?
