Borg Warner Tranny Rebuild
Hi Guys,
Can anyone suggest a responsible source for rebuilding a Borg Warner C Series in the RI or MA area? The rebuild was supposedly done just three and a half years ago when we lost reverse after backing down for three miles on a big fish in the Tails. Now after findings all the fluid in the bilge, I popped out the tranny myself with a friend this weekend only to find about 1" of play in the spline, meaning that the last guy never rebuilt it as was discussed and charged. There should be no play at all the spline, and I'm sure that lead to the blown main seal. I just need to find someone who will do the right job. The tranny is in the back of my truck. Any help is appreciated.
No wonder peoples business go to hell when they do this to customers.........
Thanks,
SK

I purchased a rebuilt from "Marine Engines" in Holliston, MA at the end of last season. (800) 786-7639. website: http://www.1800runsnew.com/NLM/reman_trans-NLM.html
They shipped it to me on a pallet, but you may be close enough to pick it up. They also sell the new if rebuilt is not the way you want to go.
I blew the ring gear last summer and was waiting to do the job over last winter. These guys couldn't use my core since I blew the ring gear and that's one of the most expense parts. I installed the tranny last October and it seems to be running fine. Mine was a 10-18-010.

what kind of movement on shaft up and down side to side or in and out of case sounds like a bearing gone with that amount of play. not a rebuild error just a worn out part

"If at first you don't succeed, don't try skydiving"
Guys,
Thanks for all the good info. I ended up going to Nopper Marine outside of New Bedford. The recommendations on them were very strong, and they had all the right answers. After having paid for a "rebuild" just less than four years ago, I needed to have confidence in getting it right this time. I'll post what they find once they open it up. The good news was that there was no water and thus no leaking intercooler.
Mike, thanks. I'm PM you off line later.
