boat videos, real world conditions sure would be nice

In shopping for a Center Console, I've been doing a lot of reading on here, created a posts that many of you responded to with helpful replies, guidance, advice, etc. and spent loads of time on Yachtworld.

Naturally I also went to many of the boat builders' web sites to get more information. I like that many of them had videos, showing the various models runnings as sort of a virtual demo.

    BUT.........

Why do they all show their boats running across flat water? What good does that really do? Pretty much any boat can run well in flat water and look impressive. I can't imagine that I am the only one that would like to see video of these boats running in typical real world conditions.

It sure would be nice to see boats running through 3'-5's or 4'-6's to see how dry the boats are, how much well the boat handles the rough conditions, head sea, following sea, speed in rough conditions, how the crew handles the conditions, etc.

Sure would be nice to see boats we are interested in, running in real world conditions that are less then optimal.

The best I've seen was SeaVee running from Florida to Mexico. That sure was interesting, useful and got me very interested in SeaVee.

Clearly nothing beats the experience of actually running a boat in person, but video of real world conditions would be great.

    because of this!!...

after you charge out into a 3-5' sea... you no longer can see whats in front of you due to salt spray, the bottoms on some of these rigs feel like they are coming up through the boat, your worried that last sound is the motor or gen set tipping over!, or they build prop pockets that make it where you can actually install the engine and prop but it sure takes away any steering because it renders the rudders about useless...and you cannot get good helicopter shots like that!! bad boats are bad boats bottom line! even if they are pretty at the dock!

ol' "quest" he's right again !!!

ol' quest hit the nail again !!! ya know, you and me we think alot alike...

don't believe what a manufacture states-it's a lie, trust me...i've dealt with enough boat manufactures to come to that conclusion, granted, there may be 1 or 2 in the world that really tell the truth, but don't count on it...don't believe anything you read in a magazine either, more lies,a boat review is nothing more than a big advertisement for that boat.

smartest play to find out is to go to the local marinas and look for the boat you're interested in,talk to the owner, tell him exactly what you're doing.owners are usually real glad to tell about their boat.try to get a ride on the boat.this way you can see and experience the boat...
center consoles-no matter what anyone tells you, they're wet,and you're gonna get wet-end of story !! that's what enclosures are made for-to keep the spray off you..

be a little cautious with who's opinion you're gonna get...

    Dealmaker,

Great observation and Quest and Jawz hit on it. I'd love to see manufacturers provide videos of their products running in the slop.

    Jawz,

The problem with asking a CC owner how their boat rides in the slop is it's human nature to validate your decision and that means the response will be, "This boat? This boat eats up 5 footers all day long". We all have seen many threads on that subject.

What the manufactures typically show in their still photos is the boat totally out of the water with the bottom of the engines in the water. The pictures are odd because there isn't a wave in sight and it looks like something out of a cartoon. The picture depicts SPEED.

You're right on the money about boat reviews in magazines. I've never read a bad boat review in a magazine. Reason is the manufacturers won't want a magazine that prints an unbiased article to write something bad about their product. A magazine that prints "Boat X Sucks" see page 26. Won't be printing many authorized articles.
