Boat Painting

Ok guys, we have finally turned a deal. The Cavalla is gone and we are purchasing a 55 Jarret Bay, "Calcutta". As many of you know this was a charter boat so it is lacking in the aesthetics department. With that being said we are going to invest into a new paint job before this season. Jarrett Bay can not paint the boat until the end of April, that is too long of a wait for us. We have calls in to Bennett Brothers in Wilmington and Champney Marine, waiting for their response. While we are waiting I thought I would run it by you guys to see if you all had any insight on a boatyard that produces a good paint job without much of a wait. We would like to have the boat close to Wilmington, but are open to a little distance.

thanks

Jarrett Bay has an outstanding paint facility. my 2 cents which aren't worth much, but the best plan works best, and trying to rush something as important as what your going to do, takes planning. Yards are famous for a 4 week job turning into something uncontrollable both time and cost wise. Count on $1000/ft. Eagle Eye, Carlos in Palm Beach county Fl. is excellent, does his work out of Cracker Boy in Riveria Beach if you do your job next winter. Him or JB would be my two top choices. Good luck and Congratulations on your new ride.

HEY ROCK BENNETT BROS. PAINTED MINE LAST SPRING THEY DO AN AWESOME JOB AND WERE REASONABLE. ANDY JAMESON IS THE HEAD GUY THAT'S WHO YOU NEED TO TALK TO. I TRIED TO GIVE CHAMPNEY A SHOT AT IT THEY COULD NEVER GET THERE ACT TOGETHER A WORD TO THE WISE STAY AWAY FROM ANCHORS AWAY BAD NEWS THERE. I'VE GOT MY BOAT AT B BROS. GETTING THE BOTTOM SODA BLASTED THEN BARRIER COATED AND REPAINTED. BESIDES JARRETT BAY THEY ARE THE BEST IN SE. NC. IF YOU ARE WILLING TO MAKE THE DRIVE JOHN BAYLISS SHOP DOES A GOOD REPAINT. ALSO BENNETT BROS HAS A CLIMATE CONTROLLED PAINT BOOTH SO NO WEATHER DAYS.

Thanks a lot for the replies.

Trophy,
We are getting a quote from Bennett Brothers and a time frame. After that we are going to look into some connections up in Wanchese. If we can not get a time slot before April I guess we will end up back at Jarrett Bay's facility. The boat is in pretty bad shape cosmetically, kind of scared to bring it back to Wrightsville without a new look.

Look forward to meeting you sometime. I know Stuart fishes with you right much during marlin season. He is down in Fort Lauderdale now I believe.

tight lines,
Capt Rock Wells
