    Boat Disaster

Yesterday I get a call that there is a problem with my boat..I live around the corner from the slip so I went right over. I find out that some "boater" smashed into the rear of my boat, while I was tied in my slip.

He bent up the SS prop, and broke the skeg off the lower unit of my outboard. He also ripped the stern cleat from the dock...Then left the scene waving to the owner of the home where I have the slip .......15Mins. later, while Im there waiting for the marine police, the guy's wife comes up and tells me that it was her husband that hit my boat...I get the info and pass it on to the State Police...Of course this guy calls me later in the day and informs me that he has no insurance...I told him thats unfortunate because I expect and demand that he pays for the damage that he caused...I get silence from the phone...

I know this is gonna be a nightmare and end up in court...but looks like I have no other choice..

next week will be spent at my insurance co., pulling the boat and getting estimates...not exactly what I expected to be doing this July..

Sorry to hear that man. Very unfortunate. I hope that the guy at fault mans up and accepts responsibility for his actions. Even if he pays for the needed repairs, he'll never be able to make up your lost boating time and compensate you for your trouble and anguish.
    Good luck,

Sorry to hear that....all I can say man , is I hope you kept good notes and have witnesses. Somebody sideswpied me on the DC beltway and because I had no witnesses, it was his word against mine, ... I had to pay my deductible because I couldn't prove a thing.

Bottom line: make sure you have a police report in hand and a witness

Don' worry I hope thing s go smooth and your're out there on the water in no time

Thanks for the replies guys...I spent my "former life" in law enforcement and have witnesses as well as a Marine Police investigation...Ill have to go to my insurance carrier and hope they can get the deductible from him...as time goes by I am "cooling off" and the picture is clear now...just hope I can get back onto the water as quick as possible...

Life Sucks sometime , but I have found that if the whole issue is under $ 10,000.00 , that let the Ins. Company worry about it !!!!!!!!!! _ You know the saying - Don't Sweat the small stuff AND it is all Small stuff ???????? Cardinal Joe

That really sucks. At least the guys wife did the right thing and came and told you. The boat on the one side of me hit and bent the lower units on the boat on the other side of me last year and the a$$hole didn't even tell the guy. He just kept going and wasn't going to say anything. The only way he found out who did was because his friend was sitting in the bar at the marina and saw the whole thing happen. I don't understand people sometimes. Well, good luck with the mess, I hope everything works out for you.
