Every boat is a compromise, and every boat is going to do some things better than than it does others. It all comes down to, does the boat work well with how you want to use it, and how much money do you have.

I do live vicariously through some of the outstanding rigs I've seen on here. I'm pretty new to the fishing game, and maybe I would have done things differently knowing what I do now, but thats hard to say on the limited budget I have and in this economy.

From the looks and sounds of it Marc, you have a well balanced, capable, efficient fish killer that's easy on the eyes. You're doing OK in my book!

But like Seapower said, if you have Boat Fever, there's always the "next bigger better boat".

    to frank and the others

Thanks very much for the compliments on our boat. It particularly means a lot as building this boat was a major stretch for us. Our prior boat was a 25 blackfin cuddy with a 4cyl yanmar. We ran that boat for 9 years all over the bahamas with hundreds of crossings in her. Then we spent 2 yrs looking to go bigger and decided on composite yachts building us this hull. We then had it trucked to Miami where we put it together and had the tower made ect. So truth is we are not really in this league other than doing a lot ourselves and bargaining the pieces ect. So its not "the best" its just what we got and happen to like.I thoroughly enjoy watching the builds and redos restos ect on this forum. I like them all , there is no BEST. I enjoy watching a guy redo an old mako or jimmy with his lobstah boat , its all great to see and interesting. I just got a lil peeved with this whole notion of "THE BEST"...........screw best..........we all got what we got and are lucky if we can fish at all in this economy.

    good thread...

I like that rig. what is the displacement?
I spoke to those guys last year and looked, what are your thoughts on ride? My biggest concern would be too light of a boat.

BTW: My "best worst rig is a seavee 29 with a cummins 370.
love it and hate it, its mine!

    Thanks

    Boat
    46' Whiticar "Pretty Work"
    Occupation
    Mate and Captain

    In my opinion...

There is no such thing as the Best boat, Worst boat, the nicest boat etc. Every one will say they have the perfect boat but its not to chest pound that their boat is nicer than the next its because its THIER BOAT AND ITS PERFECT FOR THEM. A 66' Spencer is a great boat to fish the carribean and pacific and its perfect for my owner, but the owner that has his boat based in the florida keys has a 46 Whiticar with 2 live wells a small kill box and enough fuel for 2 days of fishing, a bow rail and anchor pulpit. And both owners have the perfect boat.

I could also add my owners first boat was a 35 express production boat (I forget the make). He did day trips in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. His second boat was a 47' Davis that he started taking to St Thomas and the islands for weekends at a time then started to get more serious and got a big travelling rig but he has always said they were all the perfect boat and never said a bad thing or compared them to one another.

Very nice looking vessel that would be great for where I fish. Where are you located and what do you usually fish for?

my boat is all cored so yes its light, hence 25-26 knt cruise with small yanmars and good economy, the other side of the coin is it wont smash through big waves, i run the appropriate speed to ride the waves

Of the boats I have owned (which is the only fair way to state 'best' vs. 'worst'), the 'original' Buddy Davis boats (47' FB and 34' CC) have been the best overall ride/fishing platforms - the worst is easy - 1997 35' CABO FB - terrible ride, wet and slow.

Interesting, people rave about those cabos but my wife and I fished on one last year with cats and were very unimpressed, slow, bow high, spray, never saw the good part, it was the 35
