    Best teak decking source???

Hey guys I am just tossing this around but I kinda want to do a teak deck on my boat. To me, there isn't anything better looking than a teak deck on a boat. I know the maintenance is a ***** but I still really want to do it. I have a 22ft center console inboard and I really think it would look sick! If any of you guys are willing to share a source that you are using and are happy with then please let me know whats up.

I am not really looking for the grooved type planks that make it easier to install but have half the working life of regular planks. I am also thinking that 1.5" planks are gonna be the best size for my boat but that still remains to be seen.

Anyways, lets here the goods and maybe even some pics.

    Cheers!

    Here's a better alternative.

The cost of a real teak deck for a 22' CC is going to be expensive and add weight.

This flexiteek material is some tough stuff and its easy to maintain.

    Teak deck

There is only one source for a custom teak deck: Teak Decking Sysytems out of Florida. You will pattern your deck and send them your template. They will send you back a complete deck package for you to glue in. There is no cheap way to look at it, but if you are motivated you can lay it up your self. The only tip is to make sure you use the caulk from Teak Decking Systems, there is no better on the market. I am not sure what you mean by grooves, but the caulking in the deck serves a purpose, when the wood swells from moisture "Wetting it down" it squeezes the caulk and pushes it up out of the joints increasing traction.

thanks guys for the info. I have checked out the referenced info above. Hey Fortunate One, the flexiteek is cool but it is not really my kind of thing. I did a teak transom on my rig a while ago and I kinda want to stick with real wood. By the way, your project is looking freakin badass!!! My boat is covered most of the time so I think the maintnance would be managable. I saw the island teak website and they look like they have an awesome selection of woods there. And as for the teak decking systems, I saw that and it does look like a great way to go to save a helluva lot of time. I still have a lot of work to do until I am ready to pull the trigger on the teak deck project but I am really thinking it is gonna look awesome if I do it. Thanks for all the input and if you guys think of anything else please send it my way!

Sharkbite1, here is a pic of the grooved teak decking lumber I was refering to. I guess it has its positive and negative attributes

You dont have to use grooved teak plank. I have done most of my teak decks with normal planks temporarily screwed down into epoxy. spaced for a caulk seam. Most important part is to either use graphite in the epoxy to fill seams black or to use the Two part boat Life caulk product.
