My biased opinion is Judge 27 Chesapeake. Combine the attributes of the paker deep v and mod v hull for an economical decent ride. The warped hull design has a sharp entry to cut the rough stuff and shallow transom deadrise for stability and economy. Judges also are All composite construction, level deck to the helm, choice of motor packages, small builder attention to detail and customizations, exteneded top that you can enclose to keep your whole crew out of the weather whether it be the intense sun or cold, or rain. My father runs his 2001 Judge with twin 130 Hondas offshore regularly out of South Jersey. I will have no fear running mine offshore with a single 225 Honda even though I am primarily a ches bay fisherman. With the 225 honda and at 25 mph the boat will yeild greater than 3mpg with a fuel burn about 8gph (in calm water). I will try to post some build photos of mine tomorrow so you can see the hull design and the construction of the boat! I can wait for mine to be done!

Bill Judge is a contributer here and a great guy to deal with!

i used to own a 28' Privateer Prowler. one bad ass pilot house. not many of them were made but it had a 24 deg deadrise and was fast with twin 200's would cut through all kinds of nasty seas and the pilot house def kept us warm and dry in all seasons.

    Thumbs up

Take a look at a Shamrock Mackinaw. It's no speed demon (30 knts top) with the single 315 Yanmar, but it's very comfortable and handles rough water well. I use mine out of Key Largo and can make the Bahamas safely even if it turns snotty.
With a Raymarine autopilot, (which has a remote I wear around my neck), I fish it alone, even trolling 6 lines without crossing them.
Certainly the fuel mileage is among the best in its size. And the small, open cockpit with no O/B's makes it eminently dive able and fishable. You'd need to be really good friends to fish w/more than 4 people, though.
I'd buy another, which I consider high praise.
