We have a Simrad on the Fountain & a Furuno on the Contender & I prefer the Furuno over any of them!

This gets more difficult as you dig thru.

Today I saw Navman 6500. Made in New Zealand- 2 year warranty. Navman is owned by same company as owns Northstar. Repaired in Mass. 5 inch screen, GPS WAAS, sounder, temp etc color $709.00 but needs chip. Also impressed with GarminMap498 at $919.00 at West Marine. Comes with cartography for entire US, Alaska, and Hawaii. Thru hull with temp is extra $150.00.One year warranty. Lowrance 337 has sharper graphics- needs chip and optional transducer to get temp. One year warranty.

Ain't competion great. All these people want our money and are competing hard for it.

I know this is an off the wall suggestion, but I have a color Standard Horizon plotter that I absolutely love.

Its fast, the color is awesome and it has worked flawlessly for years. I orginally baught a $400 B/W unit and the chip ($300). The antenna wire got messed up when I was having some metal work done, so I replaced it and the chip only worked in the SH, so I just baught the larger color version($650). It came about sort of off the wall, but it rocks and they are half the price of other units.

I don't even think twice about using it to run the slot in the dark.

This is what I got and where I got it from.

By the way, with the NMEA antenna it found itself in less than 3 seconds on the initial startup in my garage. I hooked it to the car to load waypoints.
