Best place online to buy marine electronics

    Hi there,

I'm in the market to upgrade my gps chartplotter and I want to know if anyone can recommend a website that offers service and really low prices. I'm looking for an all-in one gps chartplotter, with radar and fishfinder. So I'm looking at spending close to $6,000 I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions or recommendations.

    Thanks,

    Luis

I second the recommendation of SFC supporters. Check in with BOE Marine http://www.byownerelectronics.com/store/home.php

I've said it before - Nice people that are very helpful and offer great prices. It's nice to be able to call into an internet store for advice and speak to a real live person that is knowledgable.

dude - you're looking to spend a lot of money. stay away from ebay or anybody that is only online, or that you never heard of. there are way too many people who want to separate you from your money - in fact that is a big part of the boating industry if you think about it.

definitely support sponsors, but at the end of the day, find someone local that other people recommend - even if it costs a few bucks more. this is expensive stuff and when something doesn't work right you are going to want solid support.

use online resources to research what you want and need, and get a good idea of cost. but once that's done find someone with experience and a good reputation - because you will need help at some point. good luck.

Be wary of display models - electronic displays have a 'clock' that will tell you how many hours they have been running in the store/demo display. For that kind of money, forget about ebay and someones discarded junk...Make sure the box has the factory seal unopened!

It's a buyers market, so make a deal with a reputable firm that can offer SERVICE!

Yes, ECHO that. Love West Marine or not....they tried to sell me a nice floor model that had been scrolling the same DEMO screen shots......for months......I couldn't find that clock you mention....but doing the math it had like google-plex hours on it......

Jimbo, i agree 100%. at some point you are going to have to service your gear, up grade software, tune radar bla bla bla. you may even show up and the crap just wont work. service is key. i was in the electronics biz for a few years. I would reccommend buying your gear from a reputable sponsor who you can form a relationship with so they can help you in the future.

Furuno Nav Net. Check it out. We just put one on the 50 Bertram I captain and it is un real. We had that installed as a backup, to have redundant electronincs in case something fails and I find myself using the functions on that unit more than the others. We did not go with the newest 3D unit. I have a couple of friends in the installation business and they told me there are still a lot of problems to be worked out in the programming. This unit is a gps obviously, we have a 4' open array 48 mile 6kw I think, black box for the fishfinder, It is a Sirius satellite reciever so we can hook up a stereo to the reciever and get music, we use the weather portion. It is great.
