Best Bang for your Buck

I am a middle class blue collar public servant. I have three kids a home and your average run of the mill bills. What boat gives you the most bang for your buck. Options, size, fishability, construction, etc...Lets hear some ideas.

Im in NH...I have to sell my Robalo...Im looking for something a little bit bigger then my 21 footer and possibly a small cabin to get out of the weather. I also need something that I can trailer. I would love an overnight boat. Fishing only not much cruising for me ..

Boat: 20' Key Largo
Home Port: Hampton
Best Catch: State record carp.....by accident
Occupation: Ski Instructor/School
Some guys bash them, but if you're looking for a cheap boat that can take a beating, and don't care too much about cosmetics, take a look at Key Largo. They are the type of boat that may not come from the factory up to par with others in terms of fishing stuff (electronics, rod holders, etc) but you can do that easily. I will have to say the fit and finish is not good in areas that are not visible without opening hatches, etc, but if you're jut fishing, who cares. If you want to impress people with your boat, don't buy a Key Largo. IMO, they are a fishing boat. Nothing more, nothing less. You will not get any amenities with a Key Largo, but they are tough. And the ride is pretty good once you learn how to run the boat. With the hard chines, you don't get too much roll, which is good for groundfishing and shark fishing. We have had our 20 footer 30 miles out of Hampton on Jeffries more than once. She's a big 20 IMO.

Bottom line, nice simple boat built with no extras for fishing.

What is your prefered method of fishing?
Overnighting w/ the fellas, or the Mrs?
And the million dollar question, what kind of budget do you have?

FMoore, lots of good locally-built options for you in Maine. I'd start with General Marine's 26 and go from there...
