There is a 28 bert in Wancheese with diesels for sale, I beleive for $34,000. I have a 28 bert and I like it but if I had my choice I would take the 28 CC. The build on the Carolina Classics are better than the Albemarles and I believe they are little heavier which will help with the ride. The 28 CC is laid out better in my opinion for fishing.

I do not know what you want to spend but I have a 34 Custom Fitz made in Florida. Its a flybridge average fuel burn is 1.8 to 2 miles per gal. The motors are Yanmar diesels. The look of the boat is similar to a 32 Albemarle flybridge. The bottom is very different it is very deep in the front and flattens out in the back. The cockpit is large for its size. This could be excellent for your charter fishing. This boat has never been chartered. Its a 2000 with just less than 1000 hrs. the boat is in very good condition. Its in the water ready to fish. Just lowered the price to 119,000. She is fishing for tuna Friday. Owner is moving up. 609 884 0262. I can e-mail you photos if you want.

Just thought of another boat I have a 32 Albemare flybridge w/diamond series cummins diesels just lowered the price to 65,000. the 32 has a decent size cockpit for you charters as well.

I had a 29' Topaz from 1989 to 1991. Good little boat, but you'll have to back off in a head sea. It will pound a bit. Triming the bow down helped, but the 28 Berts would still pass me and looked comfortable although I was better off on the drift than they were. If I had to make a choice today I'd probably go with the CC. I'm too old now a days to deal with the pounding and I like the CC's engine access.

the 28' bert with the 230 hp yanmars runs out nice..

very fuel efficient also .. the outboards with the v bracket makes ours run right with the bow being able to lift up more than inboards but runs on top of the waves.. you just have to get used to being on the flybridge running her sometimes you feel like your jumping on a motor-cross dirt bike trail but she digs in and lands great.

Thumbs up 27-28 Albe

I'm voting for the Albemarle...we had a 27' Albe with twin mercruisers...pretty efficient...

You will obviously have trade offs....what will run through a head sea like none other...will more than likely rock a bit on the drift...and what will be stable on the drift..will probably pound a bit in a head sea.

Our 27' Albe, man I couldn't get that thing to pound once...we were out the first year we had it...and it was nasty Del Bay rough shit and we were all the way out by Miah Maul(roughly 18 miles or so)...and the run in was through 4's and it just plowed through the waves....it was great...

She did roll a bit on the drift...but we didn't care because of the way it runs through the slop...

I had a 28 Bert for a few years. I then bought a 29 Topaz and re-powered with new 41P Volvo diesels.
Before I bought the Topaz I was concerned about the ride especially after having a B28 (It is a hard act to follow, they are nice riding boats).

As for the ride, the Topaz is very good and I don’t think it would disappoint you.

In a head sea the Topaz likes to run with some tab to keep the bow down. The Topaz has a sharp entry and uses it very well. Compared to the Bert it is not as good in a head sea but it is much drier.

In a beam or following sea just pick up the tabs and she has no problems at all. In fact, I think it is better than the Bert because there is less roll and the larger rudders help with control.

On the drift the Topaz is vastly better than the Bert.
One of the main reasons I sold the Bert was because of the snap roll (many days were un-fishable because of it). Since I got the Topaz this has not happened.

It is hard to describe in words, how well or not so well a boat rides but the best I can say is that the Topaz works with the water. It seems to be able to find a good rhythm with the waves and slides through it comfortably.

I also looked at and rode on the other boats you mentioned (Albe and CC) and because I hated the snap roll so much I opted against them, everything is a trade off. Either of these might not be too bad without a tower, but as soon as you add anything up top, you are back to the rolling problem.

As for economics the Topaz is extremely efficient to run, typically I burn between 8-9gph at cruise

Anytime you happen to be up North I would be happy to take you for a ride.

the 28 carolina would be my choice but if you havent been on the 32 ck.it out way big 32 ft. boat easy to service and common rail cummins she is fast

Bracket is made by Custom marine in Miami..

you can see his site at custommarinewelding dot com he actually builds some really cool and strong brackets.. I made the template from the curved transome and he made a jig for it so he could make more also .. makes ya smile a bit more when they fit right.. the curved transome also made the bracket longer to trim the motors all the way up and being displacement it acts as an extension of the hull. it is also v type style so you can back up .
