Batteries for Cats 3126B's

Just need to replace my heavy duty 8D batteries on a 2004 Topaz 32' with twin 3126B Caterpillars, 456bhp each. What batteries do you suggest me? Gel batteries can work fine with those diesel engines?
Thanks, Ben

Ben,
I currently use 5 Optima Yellowtop batteries in an 04 Cabo 35 with 3126B's. After 2 years I have had no problems, they also seem to hold a charge better than conventional batteries.

It's not the engine compatibility you have to be concerned with ... it's the battery charger compatibility. If you have an older charger, then it most likely would ONLY be suitable for standard wet cell type batteries. Gel cell and AGM batteries require a different charging protocol. The new style electronic style battery chargers have different selector settings for the type of battery you have.

Here's a couple good articles on marine batteries

I have had the Northstar NSB 210's for four years now with no problems. You can check them out at http://www.energy1batteries.com

I second the Optimas, have a set on my Bertram with B series Cummins.
They hold up great and they never need water !!!! plus you can mount them anyway you want cause there sealed.

I got five years out of a set on my old boat, a lot less weight also.

Good luck,
Troy
