I can back down on my cc boat.Motors are mounted on a bracket. Now if seas are 3'-5' chop, people are going to get wet and then I get water rushing in thru the floor drains too.

I run a 33' World Cat which is a great platform for offshore trolling (with the obvious exception of no vertcial relief). It is a tricky boat to fight a decent fish with, especially on light tackle. My typical maneuver is to make a long sweep away and back towards the direction of the fish and keep the angler along one of the gunnels. The bow is out of bounds if there is any kind of sea at all, as it is a raised platform and it gets very bouncy up there. I have used the same maneuver in center consoles with good results as well, it is much easier to keep the fish on whatever side you chose, as center consoles will handle much better than a cat at low speeds. Backing down is an option as well, but not when the fish gets close. Case and point, we caught a blue marlin on 20# this year by backing at first, then my sweeping as the fish got closer. A little hands on trying to keep the boat where you want it, but it does work.
