About to pretty up the boat, painting the fishbox and deck. Anyone have any tips for working with awlgrip?

awlgrip
download the manual off uspaints.com. I did it and not very difficult. prep cleaner, then sand 220, prep cleaner(already griped then no 545 primer). fix the dings and chips with awlflair. prime with 545, then sand again. awlgrip cleaner then paint the top coat. But download the guide and read it.

Oh by the way, the paint specialist at F&S Boatworks recomends awlcraft 2000 over awlgrip because the repairs are easier.

Awlgrip tip
2 most important things I have found
1. PREP is 95% of the job. Even the smallest defect will show. It has to be perfectly filled, faired, sanded ( I like 320 for final) washed, cleaned, degreased, cleaned again before you paint.
2. I like to use many light coats. First 2 coats, I will go slightly heavier, but still pretty thin. Sand to 320, clean and use a very thin final coat.

In my experience dealing with boats for the past 11 years awl grip is the best solution for your exterior surface to your vessel vs gel coat. Remember the only compound that needs to be used on your awl grip surface is 3M Perfect I thru III please do not use any other compound or you pay for the consequences and you can do it on a yearly basis. Awl care is always recommended to use but it can be expensive. If you have any questions feel free to contact me or take a look at my website http://www.boatkingsdetailing.com
