Awlcraft 2000

I have been in on several various paint jobs.

I think Awlcraft 2000 is the best, most user friendly.

My hull is 2000, and the decks, and house are Alexseal, I will not be using Alexseal again.

The whole thing will be Awlcraft 2000 when it is time to paint.

Shellback on here used sterling when he repainted his seacraft. and he rolled and tipped it and it really looks sick!!! I believe awlgrip has to be sprayed. maybe he will post up or you can b-mail him if you are interested in this paint.

Awlgrip or Sterling

Blackwell Awlgrip is a good product. However it is less user friendly and does not repair very well.It is not recommend to sand and buff this paint. Awlcraft 2000 is more user friendly and better to repair with slightly less gloss. Awlgrip is a linear polyurethane and Awlcraft 2000 is an acrylic urethane. Another choice is Alexseal this paint is a polyurethane that has the gloss and appearance of Awlgrip and the reparability like Awlcraft 2000 and is user friendly. (www.alexseal.com) Here at Jerseycape we use all of the above products.(customer preference)If it was my project i would check into alexseal.I dont have experence with sterling. Wayne (Jerseycape)

Alexseal

The Alexseal Snow White we used on my boat had some adhesions problems that would not have occured on Awlcraft 2000.

It did not like a particlur filler that we used in a couple small areas and bubbled up.

Alexseal is supposed to be shinier and harder that awlgrip and I beleive it may be a bit tougher and harder, the gloss has really started to go after just a couple of years on the paint.

Maybee it was operator error but talking with other folks, they too have had loss of gloss and adhesion issues with Alexseal.

Awlgrip - Sterling or Alexseal?

Down here in Florida everybody use Awlgrip or Awlcraft 2000 but now Alexseal is doing really Great... Like they say: It's about time to have a product really "close" to Awlgrip!!

I rolled and tipped interlux urathane (one part) and am very happy with the results after 4 seasons use. I wax it once a year and clean it after every trip.
very cost effective. After a waxing it's a 5ft. boat.(you have to be within 5 ft. to tell it was'nt srayed, even then it's hard)When I redo it though it will be a spray job. For do it yourself it's easier than awlgrip.(and not as toxic!) I had previeously done my old boat (43' baybuilt) the same way over 7yr. old gelcoat lots of sanding and it comes out good. Get a good helper!
