A lot of these boats fish Cairns for black marlin season. 25 plus knots south east trade winds basically day in day out. Super close short chop that is truly uncomfortable. Obrien , assegai, black watch all seem have sharp dead rise.
Come down the coast to Sydney / Port Stephens/ Bermagui NSW and in summer the n/e sea breeze that kicks up nearly every afternoon (starts late morning and can really wind up by early afternoon). Couple this with the fact that most swell on the NSW coast comes from s/e or east she can stand up good. Also summer weather isn't the most stable, we get southerly fronts that come through quite often and they can blow hard , the current runs strong north to south as well. In autumn the n/e wind drops a bit as the sea is at its hottest and the land cools slightly. Winter has light offshore winds generally, this is the swell season. sort of
Also Gold Coast area cops constant n/e swell from tropical depressions in summer plus either roaring northerlies or choppy sou easters.
This is just my observations i am not a weather guru. Is our weather worse than yours, i dont know. Our runs are not as long that is for sure. No 100 mile runs.
it was choppy and we ran through some swells and chop. the rounded corners are nice and the boat does not take the hard thudding in the back-end when a wave goes by .. nice riding rigs the weather is one factor.. handling in reverse without taking water over the cap rails ... priceless.
I'd like to also know how the Carolina Style compares in our (Australian) conditions. I've spent time on Askari the Assegai 55 Custom. The boat is a masterpiece and ride is amazing in the rough. It just seems to cut through smooth, dry & fast and it needs to because bumpy is the norm on the GBR. I've not had the pleasure of spending time on a Carolina Low deadrise hull and would really like to know what they are like in 25knots 2m chop. Another interesting fact is that the Assegai's are not male molded but female molded. That is the Jig is on the shop floor and the strip plank is laid on the inside of the jig. Here is a link the guys I go fishing with. Lost of images of the boat backing down and underway.
