    That's a good question?

    Attention Honda 255 owners!!!!

I have A 2005 Honda 225 outboard that I put on my SEAOX when I repowered 3 years ago. Last summer I started having a problem where the engine would hesitate at cruise speed every now and then. Then one day ,thankfully when I was close to home it just cut out. The engine would restart and run at idle speed but when I went to run it up it would only go a short distance before stalling. It seemed like it was running out of gas. So I tried all the normal things, fuel filter and seperator, new ball in the fuel line and I cleaned the strainer in the fuel tank. I could leave my house and the boat would stall at the same distance from the house every time. The parts guy at Taylor marine was very helpful he suggested I replace the low pressure fuel pump. So I bought the pump, all the gaskets and a shop manual. This pump was buried under the intake manifold and was a major pain in the ass to change. Parts costs about $350.00!!! I'll try to make this shorter but the pump did not fix the problem. The next guess was to look at the High pressure pump and it's filter. The pump costs almost $600.00 and the filter takes about 2 hours and 100 bolts to get to. I cleaned the filter, it was full of crap. Thought I had it fixed but NO!!!! Ok so I was just about ready to call the dealer and bend over and grab my ankles when I decided to give it one more try. I pulled the fuel hose off the low pressure pump and pumped the ball a few times and get this hardly any fuel came out New Ball, New filters WTF! It had to be a restriction in the line itself. Ok so here it is. The spot where the fuel line and all the wireing and controls go into the motor had coroded so badly it pinched the fuel line closed! This motor is 3 years old.

If you have the same symptoms as me do youself a favor and check that the fuel line is unrestricted all the way to the low pressure pump. The motor was just barely out of warranty and I'm going to try get Honda to at least get me the parts to replace the housing the wires and fuel line pass through.

Hope this saves someone else from the same headach!!!

Get a squirt bottle and when it cuts out squirt some fuel into the air intake of the engine. If the engeine speed picks up you know it is fuel related. If the speed does not pick up then it is electrical. First thing I would try if it is electrical is the coil. If it turnes out to be fuel I would carefully check the pickup tube in the fuel tank to see if it is split, cracked or wome how allowing air into the fuel line.

    Good luck
    Robin
